Had to drive to LA for business, so decided to leave a day early and capture some photos. Had two places we wanted to visit while in the City of Angels, Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Santa Monica Pier. After that anywhere else we visted would be by chance.
This wasn’t on our list, I guess it kind of found us. We got off the 10 freeway around Downtown Los Angeles. After driving around downtown we decided to make a stop at the Exposition Park. The Exposition Park includes the Science Center, home of the Endeavour Space Shuttle (photo info: 11mm, 1/40 sec, f/5.6, ISO 800).
Exposition Park also includes the Los Angeles Coliseum & Sport Arena. The Coliseum is the first statdium to have hosted the Olympic Games twice, in 1932 and 1984. Construction on the Coliseum was started in 1921 and was completed in 1923. What drew me to the image below was the artwork inside the arch (photo info: 11mm, 1/250 sec, f/11, ISO 200). We were luck enough to be there when gates to the stadium were open.
Santa Monica Pier
After leaving the Exposition Park it seems like a good idea to head toward Santa Monica instead of going to our hotel. Time goes fast when you are having fun. Our drive wasn’t the most direct route, but it was scenic (drove thru Hollywood)! Due to the traffic, we almost got to the beach too late. Below is a photo shortly after we got there (photo info: 250mm, 1/5000 sec, f/11, ISO 200).
This is the image I envisioned of the pier before making our trip to LA, with the added bonus of the Xmas tree (photo info: 45mm, 1/13 sec, f/6.3, ISO 400).
A Few More Photos
Below is a slideshow of several more photos from our trip.
Well, all good things must come to a end, and this is the end of our post for day one of our trip to the City of Angels. Adios!
