4th Annual Floral And Botanical Exhibit – Arts HQ

Three of my photos were selected by the West Valley Arts Council to be displayed at the Arts HQ 4th Annual Floral And Botanical Exhibit from April 9th through May 15th. The Arts HQ is located at 16126 North Civic Center Plaza, Surprise, AZ 85374. There will be an Opening Reception on April 16th (Thursday Evening), 5 – 7 PM. The reception is open to the public.

The Official Headquarters

The Arts HQ is destined to become the West Valley’s gathering place for artistic inspiration, and will serve as the official headquarters for arts and cultural information for our region’s residents and visitors. The Arts HQ consists of 2,500 square feet of gallery space – plus an outdoor courtyard – connected by a covered breezeway. These flexible spaces allow for a multitude of arts and cultural events, and can be adapted to meet various visual and performance requirements.

Greater Roadrunner Family

Greater Roadrunner Family

We visited the Desert Botanical Garden this morning and were lucky enough be there to see two Greater Roadrunner fledglings. Below are a sequence of photos of what we believe was the first trip for one of the fledglings out of the cactus they have called home since their birth.

The Greater Roadrunner is a long-legged bird in the cuckoo family. It can outrace a human, kill a rattlesnake, and thrive in the harsh landscapes of the Desert Southwest. The Greater Roadrunner is also known as the chaparral cock, ground cuckoo, and snake killer. The Roadrunner nests on a platform of sticks low in a cactus or a bush and lays 3–6 eggs, which hatch in 20 days. The chicks fledge in another 18 days. Pairs may occasionally rear a second brood.
